The Ammonites threaten to invade Jabesh-Gilead if its residents refuse to accept them as their masters. The elders of Jabesh-Gilead ask for a few days to deliberate and send messengers to Saul in Gibeah. When the news reaches Saul, he undergoes divine inspiration. He then sends messengers to all of the tribes of Israel in order to recruit a formidable army that will strike the Ammonites. Samuel and the people rejoice in their new king’s impressive victory. Even when the situation seems bleak, we can always hope for the better and take action.
“If there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee” (1 Samuel 11:3)
“And the Spirit of God came upon Saul” (1 Samuel 11:6)

Oneness is the guiding principle of our existence; unity is the source, as well as the goal.
